Walk-In Closets: How to Make Use of an Existing System

You would think an easy way to organize a closet would be to simply purchase the best built-in organization system on the market, right? But what if you already have that and you still find it difficult to keep things in place? The trick is to have a system that works for you and your daily routines. This week we tackled a spacious walk in closet with built-in solutions already installed; however our client still found it difficult to keep things organized.

The trick with built-in systems is that there are often areas at the top that are unreachable and too difficult to access. Ensure that the products/items that you will use on a daily basis are not hard to reach and take minimal effort to get too; that way you are in and out of the closet in no time. Keeping these items visible will also contribute to quick retrieval.

Also, always organize the same types of clothing together, e.g. jackets, dresses, work clothes and workout wear. Remember this does take maintenance! Every time you remove an article of clothing, take the extra time to put it back in the designated area (it will save you time later on!).

Before After

By recognizing which part of the closet gets the most traffic, you can create a much better flow. Ensure the items used on a daily basis will be stored in that area. No need to store our everyday jeans or dressy pants in the last system, when you will refer to these every day. Also, always try to recognize if there is something that works for you already. There is no need to change an existing routine that you find useful and efficient!

Whether it is the best built-in closet on the market or a basic rod and hangers; make sure the system works for you!
